You don't have to read every link to ask a useful question. Pick the source that matches what you're trying to understand. For a proposed procedure, ask the clinician to walk through the patient information for that exact medicine or filler with you.

## Movement, labeling and authenticity

- [FDA cosmetic onabotulinumtoxinA prescribing information, October 2024](https://www.accessdata.fda.gov/drugsatfda_docs/label/2024/103000s5316s5319s5323s5326s5331lbl.pdf). OnabotulinumtoxinA is the medical name of one toxin medicine. Its label lists adult expression-line and neck-band uses, unwanted effects and the warning about effects spreading beyond the treated area.
- [CDC guidance on botulinum toxin safety](https://www.cdc.gov/botulism/prevention/botulinum-toxin-injections.html). Explains how toxins work, checks for the person and product, and symptoms that need emergency help. Symptoms may begin hours to weeks after an injection.
- [FDA's 2024 counterfeit-toxin alert](https://www.fda.gov/drugs/drug-alerts-and-statements/counterfeit-version-botox-found-multiple-states). Describes harmful reactions involving counterfeit medicine, including incidents involving licensed people. It helps explain why checking a license doesn't settle the product question.
- [FDA's November 2025 illegal-marketing warning](https://www.fda.gov/news-events/press-announcements/fda-warns-companies-over-illegal-marketing-botox-and-related-products). Covers unapproved and misbranded toxins, prescription requirements and the serious warning carried by approved medicines.
- [CDC's 2024 investigation](https://www.cdc.gov/botulism/outbreaks/harmful-reactions-botox-injections/). Covers counterfeit or mishandled toxin and failures to meet local requirements. CDC closed this investigation in December 2024; it isn't an active outbreak alert.

## Fullness, specific uses and serious risks

- [FDA's consumer explanation of dermal fillers](https://www.fda.gov/consumers/consumer-updates/dermal-filler-dos-and-donts-wrinkles-lips-and-more). Covers approved uses, prescription status, common reactions and serious harms. It also gives questions to discuss with a licensed provider.
- [FDA's soft-tissue filler safety information](https://www.fda.gov/medical-devices/aesthetic-cosmetic-devices/dermal-fillers-soft-tissue-fillers). Explains urgent symptoms, the need for a blood-vessel complication plan and why removing filler can be difficult or impossible.
- [FDA's approved-filler information](https://www.fda.gov/medical-devices/aesthetic-cosmetic-devices/fda-approved-dermal-fillers). Explains hyaluronic acid, or HA, and links to the labeling for particular fillers. A material's name doesn't tell you every approved use.
- [FDA's HA lip and upper-lip-line approval example](https://www.fda.gov/about-fda/division-patient-centered-development/clinical-outcome-assessments-measure-aesthetic-procedure-success). Describes one filler's approval for adding lip fullness and correcting lines above the upper lip. It isn't a blanket approval for HA gels.
- [FDA's HA cheek and midface approval overview](https://www.fda.gov/medical-devices/recently-approved-devices/restylaner-contour-p140029s032). Describes one gel's approval for cheek fullness and midface shape or volume differences. A cheek approval doesn't establish a lip use.

## Professional roles and reports

- [California medical-board guidance](https://www.mbc.ca.gov/Resources/Medical-Resources/Medical-Spas.aspx). Questions about practitioner qualifications, supervision and complications. Check with the regulator where the procedure would happen about the rules for that person's role.
- [State medical-board directory](https://www.fsmb.org/contact-a-state-medical-board/). Find medical and osteopathic boards here. Other professions have their own regulators.
- [FDA MedWatch](https://www.fda.gov/safety/medwatch-fda-safety-information-and-adverse-event-reporting-program). A route for safety information and reporting product problems. Reporting doesn't arrange medical care.
- [MedlinePlus on stroke](https://medlineplus.gov/stroke.html) and [MedlinePlus on breathing difficulty](https://medlineplus.gov/ency/article/000007.htm). Explain symptoms and when to call 911. Use emergency services when needed; don't wait to finish the reading.
